Sovright Unveils Recovery Tool for Zcash Wallet Users
The nonprofit organization Sovright has launched Argos, a recovery tool designed to assist users in regaining access to funds that became inaccessible after the discontinuation of support for the ZEC Wallet Lite in 2022. This solution aims to address one of the long-standing issues within the Zcash ecosystem.
According to Michelle Lai, Executive Chair of Sovright, Argos enables users who still possess their ZEC Wallet Lite seed phrases to recover their funds. However, the organization did not disclose the number of affected addresses, noting that the issue only impacted a subset of shielded addresses. Sovright emphasized that the amount of inaccessible funds is substantial and primarily affects early Zcash users.
"The launch of Argos is part of a broader initiative to tackle long-standing technical challenges that have caused inconvenience for users and gradually undermined trust in the ecosystem," stated Sovright.
Sovright is also focusing on addressing long-term infrastructure challenges while developing tools to simplify the use of Zcash for the community. The organization has expressed its commitment to fostering a positive relationship with the Zcash Open Development Lab (ZODL), which was formed after a dispute within the Zcash leadership regarding the project's future direction.
In early 2026, the entire ECC team left the organization to establish ZODL, which continues to develop core products within the ecosystem, including the Zodl Wallet, an updated version of the previously released Zashi. Sovright has shifted its focus towards community support, infrastructure development, and resolving long-standing technical issues.
In a related development, Fortitude, a Zcash mining company, announced plans for an IPO on Nasdaq through a merger with HeartSciences, a deal aimed at expanding access to public capital markets and supporting future growth.
