Bitcoin Mining in Thailand: Massive Electricity Theft Uncovered
In the Thai province of Chon Buri, police have seized nearly 1,000 Bitcoin mining devices allegedly siphoning electricity illegally from the public grid. According to a report by IT BOLTWISE® x Artificial Intelligence, tampered electricity meters were used to mask the energy consumption, thereby causing significant losses for local utilities.
Investigations led to the discovery of a business site with solar panels that were not connected to the mining equipment. The Provincial Electricity Authority estimates the damage at approximately $3.2 million. These incidents highlight the challenges of Bitcoin mining in regions with strict regulatory frameworks.
