At its core, the term Mining Algorithm relates to the process used in the realm of cryptocurrency, especially in Bitcoin mining. It's essentially a series of complex calculations performed by a computer. This process seeks to accomplish two objectives: to validate transactions and to create new Bitcoins.

Now, you may ask, how does a Mining Algorithm achieve this, practically? Well, every time a Bitcoin transaction happens, it's included in the 'block'. This block is not yet added to the 'blockchain' - a digital ledger that records all Bitcoin transactions. The Mining Algorithm function comes in to check this block's validity by solving complex mathematical problems. The miner (a powerful computer that's tasked with this job) tries different solutions until it finds the correct one. Once it does, the block is verified and added to the blockchain. This serves as proof that the transaction is valid.

But there is another side to a Mining Algorithm: the creation of new Bitcoins. Once the computer solves the problem, a reward is given in the form of Bitcoin(s). This is how Bitcoins are made! However, the maths problem is not easy, and it's getting increasingly difficult as more Bitcoins get mined. This is by design to control the pace of Bitcoin production, ensuring that the 21 million cap set on Bitcoins is not breached.

Understanding the workings of a Mining Algorithm is vital as it underpins the security and integrity of the Bitcoin network. Miners compete with each other to solve the maths problem first. Not only does it validate the transactions, but it also keeps the network secure by making it difficult for an attacker to manipulate the blockchain. After all, to change a block of data, an attacker would also need to rewrite the blockchain's subsequent blocks, which is virtually impossible due to the computational power needed. This makes the Mining Algorithm the shield that safeguards the Bitcoin network.
